The 3rd Annual Junque Arte Festival will be held on May 21, 2011 at the Nowata County Fairgrounds from 9:00am until 4:00pm. The festival's motto is "Ordinary Things as Extraordinary Art", taking recycled everyday items and producing works of art. In 2009, 5 like-minded ladies of the community started the festival that was built around "artistic recycling." Each year the community's involvement and the crowd has become bigger and better!
Nowata will be a hub of activity on festival day! The committee is very busy planning such activities as a Swap-O-Rama-Rama, Children's Art Workshop, Sentiments for Soldiers Cards, 4-H'ers Kitchen Fundraiser and a marketplace of unique and handmade arts/crafts. The Swap-O-Rama-Rama is a trendy recycled clothing event and a series of DIY workshops that explore creative reuse of clothing. The Children's Art Workshop will include arts/crafts made from recycled items, storytelling and music. The much enjoyed Sentiments for Soldiers cards and banner will be brought back again this year. Last year's cards and banner went to Camp Bulldog in Afghanistan and recently a letter from the troops was published in the Nowata Star. The Nowata County 4-H will be having a fundraiser, which includes a great menu from the kitchen and the Pop Booth will feature pop, candy and popcorn. This year, the fun marketplace vendors will be coming from far and wide to attend, many fantastic new items and the favorite tried and true arts and crafts.
A Nowata Art Tour with scheduled times is currently being planned, which will include sites like the Nowata Presbyterian Church's stain glass windows, the Woody Crumbo mural in the Nowata Post Office and the Bowling Ball Art display.
